Alice for the iPad – and that's just scratching the surface of what media of all kinds can do with this device. I love it.

A 2.5 Year-Old Uses an iPad for the First Time
This nicely demonstrates two important differences to a laptop:

It's unbreakable: Did you fuck up? Are you lost or bored? Hit the only button on the device and you're back in a familiar screen instantly.
I'd feel uncomfortable seeing a kid as randomly click around on a desktop as this girl is hitting the touch screen – she might break something! Here there are fewer ways to accidentally delete stuff, no such thing as an unresponsive system with a busy cursor, etc.

It feels natural: Apart from the obvious touch screen and the lack of window management, the form factor plays a big role too: Turning the device this way and that, offering it to someone else ("Here, you try it!"), gathering around one to collaborate,... all that works much better than on what we're used to.

I'm convinced those two aspects will make this a much more enjoyable experience than the average computer for many, many people.

When the ecosystem stops rewarding complexity, it is the people who figure out how to work simply in the present, rather than the people who mastered the complexities of the past, who get to say what happens in the future.

The conjunction of a black president and a female speaker of the House — topped off by a wise Latina on the Supreme Court and a powerful gay Congressional committee chairman — would sow fears of disenfranchisement among a dwindling and threatened minority [i.e. the Tea Party movement] no matter what policies were in play.

Improve the online visibility of your fiction through the careful use of keywords

Fighting for breath, Britney Bin Laden sprinted away from the collapsing building with all the speed of a get rich quick scheme or celebrity nipple slip. A massive explosion tore seductively through the virgin wall behind her, a wall which was eighteen years old and ready for fun.
Yikes
, thought Britney, this is certainly exclusive breaking news which might well affect current stock prices. Just then, a truck carrying cheap pharmaceutical goods veered off the road, narrowly missing her. That could have killed me, thought Britney, her life flashing before her eyes like a free bootleg movie download. There are so many things I regret. I wish I had won top prizes at an online Euro-Casino, or talked to more singles in my area.
‘Britney!’ someone shouted. She squinted through the smoke. It was her friend and lover, Jesus Michael Jackson-Obama-Sextape. ‘Are you okay?’ he said, offering her coupon codes for genuine software downloads.

Two strangers awake in San Francisco after a drunken, unfaithful one-night stand. Despite an awkward start, chance leads them to spend that whole Sunday leisurely getting to know one another, forging an emotional connection from a physical encounter.

This is a slow, intimate slice-of-life movie, a kind of mumblecore, hipster version of Before Sunrise, but with a political edge: Race and the city's gentrification are major topics of conversation between the two African-American leads (one of whom is The Daily Show contributor Wyatt Cenac).

The atmosphere is perfect: The contrast-rich image, desaturated to the point that it's very nearly as black and white as the main character's worldview, the hand camera with its frequent changes of focus, the indie soundtrack (featuring Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Au Revoir Simone and Oh No! Oh My!) and the beautiful pictures of San Francisco reflect and augment the characters' emotions and situation wonderfully.

I may be a little biased because this is both my favorite city and my favorite genre of music, but I loved this film.

Guy (Dano) with family issues meets girl (Deschanel) with family and commitment issues. What will this mean for his dream of adopting a Chinese baby, which he's harbored since he was eight? Will it maybe even help him escape the terror of being stalked by a brutal homeless man for no reason? Yes, that's how little sense it all makes.

The film is interestingly cast (including John Goodman and that guy who played Lester Freamon on The Wire) and beautifully shot (though a bit teal-orangey, I couldn't help but notice), but too quirky for its own good, and with a lazily meandering plot.

It picks up near the end: Everyone's so detached that the first display of actual human emotions a few minutes from the end seems like an epic breakthrough, and when the film ended with Animal Collective playing, I was almost ready to forgive its numerous flaws.
