"From Hackerspace to Silicon Valley": I was interviewed by Alice & Nirina, "globe trotter-backpackers à la recherche des secrets de l’open innovation dans l’Europe créative" the other day (thanks @tomk32 and @alphabet for making the connection). They recorded my rambling, and there's even more in writing (mostly transcribed correctly, ahem). That's what I get for extolling the virtues of a "default-public" world!

Note to self: I need to work on my eye contact. Also, I seem to have freakishly gigantic hands.

Projektbörse für zivilgesellschaftliche Projekte in Österreich: Vorhaben aller Art (Webprojekte, Veranstaltungen, Studien, usw.) zu Themen wie "Stärkung der Demokratie", "Verbesserung des Bildungssystems", Gleichberechtigung, Umweltschutz uvm. können eingereicht werden, Privatpersonen "investieren" dann ab 10 Euro.

Zu den über 30 GründungsinvestorInnen zählen etwa Hans-Peter Haselsteiner und @oliver24, eine groß angelegte PR-Kampagne zur Bewerbung der Plattform läuft gerade an.

Die Menschen dahinter sind über jeden Zweifel erhaben, der Einreichprozess relativ schmerzlos: Also los!

Was für eine Auswahl: Das LIF will in allen Bezirken antreten (Themen: Verwaltungsreform, Bürokratieabbau, Integration), die JuLis zumindest auf Gemeindeebene auch (Sparen, Jugendarbeitslosigkeit, Bürgerrechte), dazu kommt die neue BZÖ-Abspaltung FBZ (Flattax, Cannabis-Legalisierung) und die Piratenpartei legt sich auch ordentlich ins Zeug.

Mal abwarten, wieviele davon die 1800 Unterstützungserklärungen (für den Gemeinderat) oder 50 pro Bezirk (also 1150 für flächendeckendes Antreten) schaffen... zumindest die Piraten sind ja schon zwei Mal an 500 Stück (NR-Wahlen 2006 & 2008) gescheitert.

Ich hab vor Monaten schon mal überlegt, ob ich mich da irgendwo einbringen will, halte aber die Erfolgschancen all dieser mehr oder weniger liberalen Splittergruppen für äußerst gering. Unter besseren Voraussetzungen hat das LIF bei der letzen Nationalratswahl 4,2% in Wien erzielt, die Hürde für's Rathaus liegt jedoch bei 5%. Auf Bezirksebene sieht's auch nicht besser aus: Welcher Bewohner von Boboville riskiert seinen grünen Bezirksvorsteher schon für eine Partei, die nichtmal fix in die Bezirksvertretung kommt? Wie sehr geht's im Bezirk wirklich um ideologische Grundsätze statt um die Lebensqualität, die die Grünen mit Radwegen, Parks usw. aus meiner Sicht ganz gut in der Hand haben?

Darum helfe ich diesmal anderswo mit – dazu aber erst mehr, sobald's was herzuzeigen gibt...

Liger last week at the Rhiz. I was a huge fan when I first heard his music, but can't say I followed his career very closely since then. But wow, his, or I should rather now say their live show has really improved since I saw Dino years ago at the Shelter with some awful screamo band as his opener: This was intense and lots of fun. They still sound utterly like Xiu Xiu to the point where we found ourselves humming melodies and quoting lines from Xiu Xiu songs during the gig, but that just increased the entertainment value... don't miss that show when he comes back to Vienna.

Just posting this here for posterity's sake, can't let Facebook be the only place it was documented at. Hackerspace opening, Failotron, Vittula, Sugar, sightseeing, etc. – a perfect weekend getaway. Of all Eastern European cities I've been to, Budapest is my favorite.

At the last Hackathon someone turned up who knew me from Tibia, an MMORPG I played and contributed to for about two years starting in 1998.

I just did some nostalgia-googling: Here's the center of the map area I designed, the Green Claw Swamp, with NPC Wyda's hut. I spent so many hours placing each of those tiles... I also drew that barrel graphic, among many others that have since mostly been replaced. Still, it's crazy to see at least some of that work still online after eleven years...
